Batteries

Hearing Aid Batteries come in 4 popular sizes. Each size is coded with both a number and a colour designation to help you identify them.

The largest is 675 which is colour coded Blue. These are fitted to power Behind The Ear (BTE) hearing aids. The next size down and a more popular fitment for BTE hearing instruments is size 13 (Orange). They are also widely fitted to 'Full Shell' or 'Concha' sized In The Ear (ITE) hearing aids.

Many modern hearing instruments have benefited from smaller and faster computer chips. These more efficient chips require less power to operate and therefore can run on a smaller battery. Smaller batteries equal more discreet Hearing Aids.

The 312 (Brown) battery is the same diameter as the 13 battery but half the thickness and is now a popular fitment to ITE hearing aids and the new smaller BTE or Receiver In The Ear (RITE) instruments.

The smallest battery is size 10 which is colour coded Yellow. These are fitted to the smallest ITE products and some very small RITE instruments.

Hearing Aid Batteries are made of a special chemical mix called Zinc Air that have a very long shelf life and a very steady 'flat' output allowing the instrument to work without getting weaker before the battery expires. They also do not leak acids when expired making them much safer. To activate the battery a sticky tab is removed and once activated it cannot be stopped so do not put opened batteries back in the packet or next time you need, or it will be dead! We only supply Quality brands and have included a Mercury Free alternative for those wishing to help protect the planet.
