Wax Protection
Earwax is one of the biggest causes of hearing aid failures.
Wax is and important part of our hearing system. It is used to lubricate, clean the ear of dust, dirt and other material that can collect inside the ear canal. Earwax is both antifungal and antibacterial so is an important component to ear health.
Wax is a problem however when there is too much of it. A whole or partial blockage of earwax in your ear canal may cause your hearing aid to feedback or whistle (a very common cause) and can block the all important 'receiver' or speaker in the hearing instrument which can lead failures and repairs.
A simple solution is to clean your hearing aids daily as described in your hearing aid handbook and by your Dispenser and to replace your hearing aid wax filters regularly.
Earwax is hygroscopic, drawing in and holding on to moisture which is also an enemy of hearing aids. Many hearing aids that we see for repair as 'dead' are damaged by moisture. this problem can also be easily be reduced with moisture control systems such as the Zephyr Dry Store or 'dry aid kits'.
